I am a Medical Radiologic Technologist (MRT). In Alberta, registration with the Alberta College of Medical Diagnostic and Therapeutic Technologists (ACMDTT) is mandatory for practicing or teaching in my profession. The ACMDTT establishes a code of ethics and standards of practice that all MRTs must adhere to. Also, it administers a continuous competence program which includes an annual self-assessment, a learning plan and reflective learning activities. The primary purpose of the ACMDTT is the protection of the public as mandated by the Health Professions Act.
I am also a member of the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT), our national association. My CAMRT membership provides me with access to professional development opportunities and professional liability insurance (PLI) protection coverage.
As an X-ray and MRI technologist, I work with a diverse, multidisciplinary healthcare team to provide patient care. Additionally, when teaching prospective technologists, I often find myself working with team members from various professions. My interprofessional interactions involve working with Radiologists on a daily basis to perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures on my patients, especially in areas such as CT, Fluoroscopy and MRI. Furthermore, we interact with nurses from different units, healthcare aides, medical office assistants, porters, surgeons, and biomedical technologists, to name a few. The interactions are all centred around patient care in a multidisciplinary team approach ensuring a smooth and efficient collaboration and transfer of care.
Thanks,
Ayman
